The history of Iridology has many varied sources of Human knowledge and observational sciences included in its formation. There is no one exact person or time that can claim to ‘own’ the knowledge of Iridology but can only present a long lineage of various pioneers that have added to its vast database of understanding and wisdom.
Looking through the ancients texts it soon becomes apparent that the ‘Eye’ has always been of great fascination to the Human race, it symbolism is seen in every culture right from the newest forms of modern advertising ‘TV-cosmetics’ right back to the earliest representations of God and the various occult traditions.
Although most ancient Asian medicine was using the Eye as a form of diagnosis it is rarely mentioned that the Iris was used exclusively as the only means of illness detection, the oldest written record I have come across is from the Caraka Samhita (Caraka was a famous author in ancient Tibet / India and his ‘Samhita’ or treatise is the foundation stone of Ayurveda) traditional Indian medicine still used to this day with great effect.
