Von Peczely seized upon the idea that the state of the bodies internal mechanism could be observed and charted from analysis of the Iris. As a physician and Homoeopath in later life he had many opportunities to study this phenomena in his patients and kept many journals over his years of practise, accumulating much knowledge about this new emerging science.

Von Peczely also examined many cadavers during ‘Post Mortem’ but was often puzzled over apparent makings in the eye than never seemed to have troubled the patient during his lifetime where as other markings had. He termed this observation ‘Hic signum ubi ulcus’ - here is the sign but where is the disease?

Von Peczely finally concluded that Iris signs were inherent weaknesses that may or may not manifest depending upon the person’s life experiences. Von Peczely is considered today to be the father of modern iridology.
